Some heraldic enquiries cannot be resolved by examining a coat of arms alone. Establishing its history or determining a possible family connection may require genealogical research into individuals, family lines and supporting historical records.

The price shown is the starting price for advanced heraldic and genealogical research. It covers the initial research required for many of the enquiries received by IHGS, which may include consulting heraldic records, pedigrees and other historical sources to investigate the origin and ownership of the arms.

Every case is different, and the extent of the research required cannot always be determined in advance. Enquiries involving multiple family lines, countries or separate research questions may incur an additional fee. If further work is recommended, IHGS will explain what is required and provide a specific quote for your approval before proceeding.

Research findings depend upon the availability, accuracy and survival of relevant records. While every reasonable effort will be made, a definitive identification or family connection cannot be guaranteed.
