Coat of Arms Identification
Have you discovered a coat of arms in a family document, portrait, piece of jewelry, memorial, bookplate or other heirloom? Our heraldic experts will research its design and symbolism to determine, wherever possible, to whom it was originally granted or associated.
This standard service covers the identification of a coat of arms when its country of origin is known. We will examine the heraldic details and consult the appropriate published records and reference sources. Whenever practicable, we will also attempt to connect the arms to a named individual.
Please remember that a coat of arms belongs to a specific individual—not automatically to everyone who shares the same surname. Identifying the original bearer is therefore an important first step in determining whether the arms may have a genuine connection to your family history.
Although every effort will be made to identify the arms, some coats of arms do not appear in surviving or published records, and a definitive identification cannot be guaranteed. If the country of origin is unknown, the search may require more extensive research and an additional fee. We will advise you before undertaking any work beyond the standard service.
